to Easily Master
the Art of
Consistency.
Answering Life’s Essential Question
To be or not to be that is the question❓
No in all seriousness the 🔑 key question we all need to answer is;
What do you actually want from this life?
Money 💴
Time 🕰️
Freedom 🌳
No idea 🤷🏾♀️
Now being completely honest with yourself.
Why don’t you have it?
Is it that you quite simply don’t know why you don’t have what you want?
I mean if you did you’d have it- right?
Unveiling the Pitfalls of Goal Setting: My Journey to Recognising Consistency as the 🔑 key.
Hopefully, I was one of the many people that created the list of 10 goals and selected one that I was going to pursue.
Yups, I fell short of achieving that goal but upon reflection clarity dawned and I realised why.
Of course am your average person and because of that I lack what most people do … CONSISTENCY.
I start strong and then there’s usually a bump something which knocks me out of my newly formed routine leading to temporary setbacks and then that’s it I fail – initially just for the day but then something else will happen and 1 day becomes 2, then 3.
Historically, I do not and have never mitigated any risk for any goal I’ve ever set out to achieve. As someone who works in projects I’ve been pretty rubbish at project managing my own personal goals when it comes to achieving.
There’s an art to Consistency.
Inspired by the insights above, I’m excited to present 7 steps toward becoming a more consistent person.
Ps. It’s essential to recognise that while we outline these steps, the key lies in cultivating the habits necessary to sustain these practices effectively.
1. Set SMART Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals, and define what consistency looks like for you. Whether it’s dedicating 30 minutes daily or 2 hours weekly. Commit to your goal, even if it means pledging to work on it for 30 minutes each day for the next 6 months and then just review and adjust accordingly depending upon your accomplishments.
2. Establish a Purposeful Routine, tailor your routine to accommodate your newly defined goal. Consider potential disruptions, such as illness 🤒, and develop contingency plans.
Ask yourself: If you’re unable to dedicate your allotted time to your goal today, how will it impact your progress? Anticipating challenges and preparing accordingly is key to ensuring your routine supports, rather than hinders, your goal achievement.
3. Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise – I say it all the time but don’t spend time doing the easiest or your preferred tasks, spend time focusing on what you have to do and make sure you carve out adequate time for these tasks. If you set let’s say an hour an evening aside and you quickly realise it’s not enough time to complete the tasks either adjust accordingly or streamline the tasks to maintain productivity and progress.
4. Maintain Organisation – Staying organised is paramount, especially when faced with challenges such as delegated tasks aren’t meeting required standards or are going unfinished. Remember, number 3 prioritisation is key 🔑 . Utilise whatever methods you have available that suit your preference, whether it’s traditional pen and paper or modern apps like Notion, to track progress effectively. By remaining organised and focused, you’ll navigate setbacks with greater ease and efficiency.
5. Embrace Discipline – Discipline is challenging, but your ‘why’ must serve as your anchor, motivating you to remain disciplined even on the toughest days. Let your ‘why’ drive your focus, shielding you from distractions and procrastination. By anchoring your actions to your deeper purpose, you’ll maintain the resilience needed to stay disciplined and forge ahead, regardless of obstacles or wavering motivation.
6. Track Progress it’s crucial that you monitor any progress or lack of to be able to pivot and adapt when required. Daily assessment against prioritised actions provides valuable insight into your journey. Tracking progress consistently cultivates the motivation to maintain consistency by allowing you to witness any and all tangible results. This will reinforce your commitment making consistency a natural habit.
7. Persistence this is the cornerstone of consistency. Requiring resilience in the face of adversity and challenge. Whilst it’s challenging it becomes far more manageable when you see results (the importance of no 6), or when you have a community of like minded supporters spurring you on. Or a compelling ‘why’ driving your determination.
Thoughts 💭
When it’s all said and done we all just want what we think is best for ourselves and our families, and it usually does fall in to one of the categories listed above
Money 💴
Time 🕰️
Freedom 🌳
And thats usually because we believe that it’ll lead to our true desire, happiness.
However the issue we have is that all the information in the world 🌎 without any action is basically useless a waste of memory space.
What we as adults need is the exact advice we tell children, ‘practice makes perfect’ albeit it’s technically inaccurate. In reality practice forms habits and habits create ‘perfection’ or for better accuracy improvements.
Hopefully in my next post I can share the best ways to form habits and how everything we do is a habit good and bad – stay tuned.
