Introduction 

Whilst everyone welcomed another year on New Year’s Day. I marked my birthday with the timeless reminder that I’m, ”another year older, another year wiser,’ and all that ‘thrilling’ stuff. This year, my celebration took an exciting turn, breaking the norm of my routine. ‘For the first time in forever🎵’ I was bestowed with gifts 🎁, some truly extraordinary ones. Some might even dub them as ‘life-changing’—yes, I am a tad dramatic 🎭.

Let me give you some context:

In December 2023, whilst basking in the warm Egyptian 🇪🇬 sun ☀️. I made a shocking 😮discovery 💡

Coffee trauma: History 

While I understand that loving coffee is a common sentiment, bear with me as I confess that, for the first 31 years of my life, I didn’t share the same enthusiasm. Despite multiple attempts, praying that my taste buds would change, especially when I started shift work (those night shifts were a killer) – they didn’t. On a plus note, I must admit I always did love the smell 👃.

After persistent encouragement from my
Friends. I embarked on a journey of trying various coffee types, fuelled by the belief that there must be a perfect brew out there for me. From mochas to lattes, flavoured concoctions to regular instant coffee—sadly, none of them struck a chord with my taste buds; it was all rubbish 🗑️ 😔

Revelation 

But then …

During my stay at an all-inclusive resort in Egypt 🇪🇬, I couldn’t help but notice everyone sipping on an ice-cold, pale brownish concoction – later identified as iced coffee. Intrigued and fuelled by the ‘why not, it’s free‘ spirit, I requested the bartenders to add a splash of caramel syrup. Boom, my life changed thanks to this delightful discovery. Holiday naps became a thing of the past, and I realised what I’d been missing out on all these years!

I informed my partner immediately of this revelation and he commemorated it with a thoughtful birthday  🎉 gift, the ‘hotel chocolat velvetiser.’ I had been dropping hints for the past two years, driven by my prior obsession with hot chocolate.
